Five senior dancers at SUNY Purchase came together to create a showcase and a film to pair with it, the show entitled "Arrival Through Departure". For this project, I designed the sets and look of the film, took photography of those same sets, and also designed the titles and posters for the film and showcase.
Arrival Through Departure follows five strangers waiting at a train station, exploring their inner struggles and stories through abstract visuals. The narrative culminates in a surreal sand-filled void, blending elements of their worlds. Here, they realize their shared humanity despite their differences, returning to the station with a collective sense of connection. The film’s retro-futuristic style evokes a dystopian past, creating a timeless, ambiguous setting. Set entirely on a stage, the revealed curtains at the end blur the line between reality and fiction. Sand, symbolizing time and life’s fragility, gradually overtakes the scenes, echoing the fleeting nature of existence.
